About Roy Vandoorn

Since you are on my web site, you have already figured out that my name is Roy Vandoorn and that I am a REALTOR with Coldwell Banker Island Properties and I live and work on beautiful Maui.

You are probably wondering, who is this person, is he someone that I can work with and why this person versus one of the other 1300+ REALTORS® on Maui.

 Who is Roy Vandoorn?

I was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Dutch Immigrant parent who left Holland after the second world war.  At the age of 7, we moved to San Francisco Bay Area and I grew-up in Sunnyvale, California.

I am a graduate of San Jose State University with both a Bachelors and Masters in Mathematics.

I worked for IBM during Graduate School and worked for Hewlett-Packard for over 27 years.  My last position was as a Director of Marketing for the Enterprise Storage and Server Organization.

My wife Melissa, dog Lucy and I moved to Maui in May 2003.  We currently live in Wailuku.  We own a vacant lot in Maluhia Country Ranches and hope to build our dream house there soon.

Roy's Real Estate Background

I chose Real Estate as a second career because after working for large corporations for over 28 years, I wanted to make a difference in people's lives.

Why did I select Coldwell Banker Island Properties?

I first got to know Coldwell Banker when my wife sold our California home.  She hired a Coldwell Banker agent Dave Clark to list our house.   Dave was the most professional real estate agent I had ever met and starting from when he coached my wife on how to prepare our home to get it sold to getting us an offer in 10 days and a seamless closing experience, Dave is my role model for how I want to service my clients.

After working for another company here on Maui, I saw the benefits of being part of the largest company as measured by sales volume.  Since 1906, the Coldwell Banker® organization has been a premier provider of full-service residential and commercial real estate. Coldwell Banker is the oldest national real estate brand in the United States and today has a network of approximately 87,000 sales agents working in approximately 3,100 offices in 49 countries and territories. The Coldwell Banker brand is known for creating innovative consumer services as recently seen by being the first national real estate brand to create an iPad application and the first to fully harness the power of video in real estate listings, news and information through its Coldwell Banker On LocationSM YouTube channel. The Coldwell Banker system is a leader in specialty markets such as resort, new homes and luxury properties through its Coldwell Banker Previews International® marketing program. Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC fully supports the principles of the Fair Housing Act and the Equal Opportunity Act. Each office is independently owned and operated.

At the end of the day, Real Estate Companies are all about people.  I take great pride being part of a company where I like and respect the leadership team, starting with Jim Gillespie - Chief Executive Officer and Budge Huskey - President and Chief Operating Officer at Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC to the owners of Coldwell Banker Island Properties Bob Cella and Douglas R. Fitch to my broker J. Robert Lightbourn.  I got my first job when I was 16 and I know that liking and respecting your entire management team doesn't happen very often.

My Additional Training

Taking your pre-licensing real estate course is more about passing the national and state test, than it is about becoming a Professional REALTOR®, therefore it is up the individual to develop their own skills to become Professional REALTOR.  Here are my current certifications and designations:

My own real estate history.

I find it interesting when someone hires a real estate agent that has never brought real estate themselves, it is sort of like buying a car from someone without a driver's license.  Yes, I have bought and sold real estate before I became a REALTOR.

  • 1986 -- Bought my first house in San Jose, California as my primary residence.
  • 1994 -- Sold my San Jose house and bought in Santa Clara, California.  Sold and bought to get closer to work and into a better neighbor.
  • 2000 -- Bought a 3.4 acre lot on Maui.  My wife and I still hope to build our dream house on this lot.
  • 2003 -- Sold the Santa Clara house and bought a house in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii.  This is my current primary residence
  • 2005 -- Bought a vacant lot and condominium in Branson, Missouri. The condominium is in a short rental program.
  • 2006 -- Bought two houses in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.  These houses are long term rented.

 Lets Work Together

Whether you are looking to purchase a condo, single family home, vacant land where you can build your Maui Dream Home, or if you need to sell a Maui property, I am here to help you. Even if owning on Maui is just a dream for you at this point, call or e-mail me anyways. I am in the business of helping my clients create a plan to make their dreams come true.
